Hello,
It's been more than a month since I last wrote. A lot has happened. I want to update everything, but I don't think I remember every single detail. I'll try though.
Most importantly our mid-semester jury got over. Actually, our final jury is on 9th November, that is exactly 3 weeks. So, the mid-sem jury was chill. I was nervous, but not as much as I would have been had the jury been individual or offline or both. This time I was kind of reassured that even if I screw up, Aditi and Muskaan will cover up for me. On the day of the jury, I woke up early, took a bath and literally dressed up. I even put on bb cream and lip balm. I know I know. Lol. The jury went fine. But yeah, the jurors were kind of disappointed with the outcome of our studio as a whole. But doesn't matter, I was happy it was over.
Other than the mid-semester jury, I'm officially a part of the FP Newsletter and The Black Table Editorial. Ok, the Black Table is supposed to be a secret so I won't say anything about it. I won't tell you who are the other members or who formed the team. Now, about FP NL, I was kind of surprised I got in. I actually got in by luck. Dhriti had once told me that NL people are looking for new members and that I should talk to Arundhati. But back then, I wasn't sure about committing to both Black Table and NL. And Balck Table was definitely my priority. But when I didn't hear back from for a long time, I messaged Arundhati and she told me to write an official mail to the Newsletter team. Which I did and the Chief Editor, Palaash asked me to send 2 entries. And I got selected. Some days later, we had our first meeting, Palaash said that I write very well. I was very happy that day. I had to write 3 articles for the September edition of the Newsletter. 1. Urban Powwow session 2. L2 studios mid-semester juries 3. Information about the jurors.
Later we had Prameya. I signed up for organizing the Photo contest, but nothing really happened. Srushti, Heena, Kanishka and I were in the team. But nobody really contacted us or assigned us any responsibilities. The Prameya weekend was very busy. There was studio work, mandatory work, but I did try to attend some events. I attended Jan Gehl's lecture, not entirely, but yeah. Then I attended Cultural Night. By the way, Srushti from Roadies is FP PG student. I was kind of surprised after I came to know this. Prameya was fine.
After mid-semester juries, we have been working individually in studio. Each one of us has to intervene at all three components. We've been having weekly submissions of our conceptual designs. Other than that we had to submit 20 pages of neighbourhood journal, 2 case studies and summary of 2 research papers. And also, there was this one group assignment: Mapping the transition zones. Muskaan and I had a feud over this. Nevermind.
Case Studies:
Last one week has been very very hectic. I'm very proud of myself for having survived. I'll tell you how many submissions I exactly had: 1. 2 posters for PCS Assignment 6. I'm so glad this one was a group exercise and Elan was in our group. Elan, Mehul, Srushti and I were a group. We had to make 6-7 posters about Public Infrastructure. We ended up making 9.
2. PCS Assignment 7: This was an individual assignment. We had to answer 7 questions after reading a newspaper article.
3. FCS Material Study: I committed the biggest blunder by selecting Earth as my material. I had to look at 3 forms of earth. I did 2, 3rd one, I kind of copied from Srushti.
4. Final Submission of Elective: We had to pick one of the trails that we had been introduced to in any one of our class and then work on it. This is what I did.

Of the several tribes of Jews, the Bene Israel Jews first came to India approximately 2200 years ago, when they were fleeing execution by the Seleucids in Palestine. The shipwrecked near the village of Navagaon on the Konkan Coast. Only 7 men and women survived the shipwreck. These jews who survived settled in different parts of Maharashtra and added a suffix “kar” to their surnames (which means “inhabitants of”) and embraced the Marathi culture. Later, the migrated to several cities near Maharashtra including Ahmedabad. The Bene Israel Jewish community of Ahmedabad comprises just 140 members or so. In the city lies the only synagogue of state – The Magen Abraham Synagogue. This was constructed in 1934, with donations from the Bene Israel Jewish community of the state, and consecrated on September 2, 1934.
During the WW2 when Jews were murdered all throughout Europe, Maharaja of Nawanagar, Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja, gave refuge to 1000 Polish Jewish children. He just didn’t give them shelter, he made sure they had a childhood. Built schools for them, celebrated festivals with them. On the occasion of the 100th Independence Day of Poland, in 2017, 8 of these 1000 children who received shelter in Gujarat came to visit.
Gujarat and India as a whole have always been a land that welcomed Jews with open hands while the rest of the world shunned them. I believe in recent times, when religious intolerance has been on the rise in India and Gujarat, these incidents from our history are worth remembering and therefore I chose to represent this trail in the form of Warli Art.
To be honest, I'm not happy with how my painting turned out. I'd done a much better job for my midterm submission. But then I'd spent almost 6-7 hours on it and 3 hours on this one. In my defence, I had 3 submissions on Sunday.
5. Prepared proper drawings of grocery store zone and small public space for the "Informal Review" with Rajiv Kadam. But then I didn't get the chance to submit. Shitty internet.
6. Came up with ideas for street edge.
7. Made proper drawings for street edge. 8 freaking sections.
8. Fixed the masterplan, once and for all.
9. Went out at 8:30 am and then 2:30pm to get pictures of the entire street then stitched them together on Photoshop.
10. 5 additional sections for the transition submission. But still Muskaan said that I didn't do shit.
Phew! And yeah
